Meeting on Monday..

Me, Elsa, Natalie, Melissa met on Monday to finalise ideas for the project and distribute sections to complete from the agreement ready for the deadline on Friday.

We re-assessed our research question after feedback from Alison, and decided to look at a variety of accents in a variety of reality t.v. shows such as 'Geordie Shore', 'The only way is Essex' and 'Made in Chelsea' and evaluate how they are portrayed in the programs.

Elsa has discussed some books she's found that are relevant to our question, and she will add these to our learning agreement.

We have all agreed to watch v-lectures 2-4 and complete the assigned reading for milestone 1.

We have decided to set up a facebook group to make communication easier. We will use this group as a draft system in order to collect group feedback before finalising ideas and posting them on the blog.

  1. Good post - very methodical and clear. Sorry you're not finding this forum as easy to use as Facebook, and glad you're willing to persist with it for reporting decisions. Have you signed up to receive posts from other people's blogs? That's one way you might find this system more useful, maybe.
One quick comment on your project: you mention 'evaluating' how accents are portrayed. This sounds more judgemental than maybe you intend. As researchers, your stance can be simply investigative, ('how are accents portrayed?') - but do heed my advice about thinking what your findings could look like. What evidence counts as the 'portrayal' of an accent? The project definitely has potential, and I think the key is clarity as to what exactly you aim to find out. Hope this helps.
